It has been quite a rough week for quite a lot of us. Meaning that tons of unlockers/jailbreakers have upgraded to iPhone OS 3.1.3(7E18) without thinking of any consequences. This post is going to explain situations for unlockers & jailbreakers that did not save their SHSH blobs.
Firstly, I would like to say that there will be NO ONE that will be creating a new jailbreak that will support 3.1.3 (stock) w/o SHSH blobs. The reason is, it is such a minor release. Using a new exploit would be a waste because the iPad/New iPhone is upcoming, and I bet the Dev-Team/Chronic/geohot would like to keep it to themselves so that they will be able to start their work on the new iDevices, the launch day. Also, a new 05.12.01 baseband exploit (confirmed) has been given to the Dev-Team, but the Dev-Team would most likely keep it til the next iPhone. Why is that? I'll break it down.
1) The iPhone 3G/3GS use the same baseband chip. (which is why ultrasn0w/blacksn0w work for both). [It is called the X-Gold 608] 2) If the next iPhone is released and has a NEWER baseband chip, Apple then would most likely stop producing the iPhone 3G/3GS. 3) Therefore, if the product is NOT on the market anymore, then why would Apple bother to patch it? * If you notice: ultrasn0w was planned to be released on the 3GS launch date on purpose. *
So, I don't know about you, but waiting a few months for a possibly permanent unlock seems nice to me.
Anyway... The real good info is here: Unlockers * If you are a blacksn0w unlocker running: 3.1.2 (7D11), STAY THERE! * You are currently on the 05.12.01 Baseband. * There is no unlock available for that baseband at the moment. * You cannot downgrade your baseband unless you are a 3G iPhone user with the 5.8 Bootloader. * Downgrading your Firmware will not downgrade your baseband * In the future, when a new unlock arises, always use a custom ipsw created by: PwnageTool/sn0wbreeze to preserve your baseband in future firmware releases. * Any iPhone 2G Firmware is unlockable via BootNeuter
Jailbreakers * iPhone 3GS/iPod Touch 3rd Gen Users can downgrade your unpwned device to a jailbreakable firmware (Out the box) if you saved your SHSH Blobs in Cydia. * You can downgrade if you have your SHSH blobs by this tutorial: http://saurik.com/id/12 * iPhone 2G/3G/iPod Touch 1G/2G (Non-MC) can downgrade to any firmware without SHSH blobs. * There is NO tethered 3.1.3 jailbreak upcoming for the iPod Touch 2G (MC)/iPod Touch 3rd Gen mainly because of the same issue as explained in the first paragraph.
I hope this helps everyone understand a bit more.
